About

Leading paediatric consultant

As a Lead Consultant, I have developed and continue to oversee the growth of GI service at King’s College Hospital and the Evelina Children’s Hospital until 2015. I worked to expand the service with consultants, nurses, psychologists, registrars, pharmacists and dieticians. Approximately 5,000 children with gastro problems were seen every year under my leadership.

I improved the networking in South East London and King’s is the first centre to provide 24/7 bleeding rota for children. I was the first paediatrician to offer a RNY single balloon enteroscopy service in UK. I manage children with complex GI problems like intestinal failure, short gut syndrome, enteral and parenteral feeding, pancreatitis (acute and chronic), also GI problems after liver, pancreas and intestinal transplantation.

National paediatric endoscopy training

I set up a national paediatric endoscopy training centre at King’s (the second UK centre) and trained junior doctors and colleagues in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. I am the director for Paediatric endoscopy training centre at King’s and run JAG accredited hands on endoscopy courses. I was the Chair for Endoscopy within British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology (2018 -2021) and worked with NHSE (NHS England and JAG -Joint Advisory Committee for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) to improve the standard of paediatric endoscopy services.

Published work

I have authored chapters in the textbook of Paediatric Gastroenterology, and published papers, currently a PI for 4 studies and CI for one in Paediatric Gastroenterology.

I have published an article on the ‘Safety of Balloon Enteroscopy in Children’ and also ‘Video Capsule Enteroscopy in Children Under the Age of 4 years’. Enteroscopy is used to examine the small bowel which is not easy to be examined with conventional methods and often children might need surgery for this reason. These 2 studies supported the use of enteroscopy to examine small bowel safely and avoiding the need for surgery for diagnostic reason.
